Erwin acquires Analytix DS

Erwin has recently announced the acquisition of Analytix DS.  We know both companies well. We are an Erwin partner and have held regular meetings with Analytix DS in the US.  Overall – we think this will be very positive, and we thought that we would share our initial thoughts.

We have been impressed by the metadata management capabilities of Analytix DS.  They have developed a substantial customer base with many large Fortune 1000 customers among them.  Michael Boggs, the CTO and founder even coined the term “Pre ETL Mapping”.  Their products focus on automating the mapping and data discovery activities with their flagship Mapping Manager.  They also have a Data Vault loader feature in Talend for managing the metadata flows.

We see this as a positive move for Erwin.  Whilst all acquisitions carry risk, we think this one will work.  Both organisations have an east coast US headquarters which should make integration easier both from a logistical and cultural point of view.  Two years after it was spun out of CA, this underlines the commitment of Erwin’s new owners to building a software company with real scale focused on the information governance space.

They are complementary and fit well into Erwin’s EDGE (Enterprise Data Governance Experience) vision

They are complementary and fit well into Erwin’s EDGE (Enterprise Data Governance Experience) vision
There is some overlap in products but for the most part they are complementary and fit well into Erwin’s EDGE (Enterprise Data Governance Experience) vision.  The automated data discovery and mapping tools that Analytix DS brings will fill gaps in the offer and opens up new possibilities.  We understand from our contacts that this has been planned for some time including development work to integrate products before the formal acquisition, so with a clear vision the execution risk should be low.

We wish them well and look forward to hearing more.  The announcement is on this link.
