Introducing our Data Vault 2.0™ technology landscape

It is no secret that we are fans of the Data Vault 2.0™ method for Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse design.  We believe that the use of proven techniques alongside innovative tools can facilitate data service modernisation.  Tools allow tasks to be sped up through automation, volumes to be scaled up for big data and cost-effectiveness facilitated through open source or cloud-based pay-as-you-go payment models

The use of proven techniques alongside innovative tools can facilitate data service modernisation

Our clients expect us to have expertise in the latest tools and techniques and have an opinion of their suitability for a Data Vault 2.0™ Data Warehouse.  The Data Vault 2.0™ Landscape started as an internal project to understand and map out the tools available in the market.  It is a collection of many of the major products in use in the Data Vault 2.0™ arena.  However, we soon realised that it could add value to the wider Data Vault 2.0™ community.

For easy of presentation, the tools have been tagged by function and tiered into a stack:

  • Dashboards, Reporting Engines, Data Science applications that consume data and inform the business;
  • Data Migration tools that move, clean, pipe and transform data for consumption;
  • Database Systems that hold the raw and prepared data;
  • Platforms and the utilities needed to support a Data Warehouse.

We have also produced an accompanying ‘Data Vault Technology Landscape Guide’.  This provides the next level of detail with short descriptions of the underlying companies/products behind the logos, presented in an easy to navigate manner.  Click here to get your free copy.

The Landscape is not an exhaustive guide and we do not claim to necessarily have everything correct, but we hope that it will be useful to others.  Do please get in touch if you believe we can improve the landscape in a future edition.
